My maternal family is a matriarchy. I had the good fortune of being born into this lineage of Buddhists, Pagans, astrologers, mystics and artists. My grandmother, Margaret Carroll, taught yoga in New York City before I was born and introduced me to divination, Tarot and an alternative way of thinking when I was in grade school. I am so lucky to have known her and learned from her for over 30 years. My own yoga practice started as a child with a gymnastics injury and an interest in mysticism. I didn't realize I was starting a life long journey, I just thought it was fun to move and stretch and that I felt good after class.
It was in high school that I started meditating and performing ritual, often clumsily and with little guidance. I was seeking relief from stress and anxiety, like so many of the students that I work with now, and I felt called to explore my own spirituality to uncover what was meaningful to me. I continued these practices through Photography study at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, and during this time did my first yoga teacher training with Alan Finger and Jean Koerner at Be Yoga in 2006. I wanted to learn to guide myself with more skill in my home practices; instead, I found my calling as a teacher and a passion for the study of yoga.
My appetite for information has never been satiated. Since 2006 I have participated in thousands of hours of trainings as a student, assistant and teacher. I have met some incredible mentors; I am so grateful for Alan and Jean, Jillian Pransky, Cyndi Lee, and Elena Brower. I completed the Art of Attention Advanced Teacher Training from 2013-2014, during that time I discovered a tribe of incredible women and the Katonah Yoga Method. After returning home to Brooklyn in 2017 I have had the privilege of connecting with Abbie Galvin, Nevine Michaan, and Francesca Bove who have helped me deepen my understanding of this Material.
My classes are an evolution of my own study. I bring everything that inspires me to the mat and to my students. My teaching is very precise and practical with a flair for the mystical. I'll gladly teach you about the Full Moon and your Pelvic Floor. My sequences are crafted by season and drawn in my notebook every week. I love spending time thinking about what I am going to offer, it feels like art to me. I am so thankful to live a life that keeps me inspired and to continue meeting incredible students and teachers. Thank you.
